In these lists I hope to give you an idea where and how regular we saw the species. However it is often difficult to give exact and useful information. All the photos in this section were made by us, so if you would like to use them, ask first and we will find a way.

Great Northern Diver
Eistaucher (Gavia immer)

Easily found on coastal lakes, Fjords and Lake Myvatn (Photo). Prefers bigger lakes than Red-throated Diver.

Often on small and shallow lakes, more numerous than Great Northern Diver.

Common, especially at Lake Myvatn (Photos).

Fulmar
Eissturmvogel (Fulmarius glacialis)

Very common along the coast, especially in the south. The photo on the right shows probably a juvenile which was too fat to reach the sea and which is now starving to the right weight. The photo below was shot in the harbour of Grindavik. We saw this species also in the inland, more than 50 km away from the coast.

Common along the coast, sometimes in the fjords. Colonies e.g. at Eldey and Nupskatla.

Single birds, e.g. on the 21st near Stykkisholmur.

Common, big numbers, especially in the south. Whooper Swan

Common in coastal areas.

Some flocks in the inland near Grimstadir and Mödrudalur.

Common in coastal areas.

1 female on 23rd near Kopasker.

Single birds, mostly in coastal areas, sometimes close to seabird colonies (2 on 20th, 1 on 21st, 2 on 23rd, 1 24th).

Only once a group of 3-4 birds at Nupskatla on Melrakkasletta on 23rd.

Single birds at a small colony at some farm houses near Hof on 26th.

Common in coastal areas of the north.

Mammals:

Besides the birds we found 2 Minks (Mink, Amerikanischer Nerz) and some Reindeer (Rentier), both introduced to Iceland. Along the coast we saw Common Seals (Seehund) and also single Grey Seals (Kegelrobbe). In a fjord we had also two Porpoises (Schweinswal).
